Forma Group is a historical and active member of CON.T.A.S, the consortium for the protection of the PGI designation of Sardinian lamb.
It is often said that the quality of the land makes for good meat; a statement that is particularly true of Sardinian lamb, which draws its qualities from the peculiarities of the area in which it is reared.
As stated in the Specification, only lambs born and reared in Sardinia (…) in a completely natural environment characterized by wide open spaces exposed to strong sunshine, winds and the Sardinian climate – which perfectly meets the requirements of the species – can be considered PGI Sardinian lamb. Our lambs are mainly reared in the wild; only during the winter period and at night can they be housed in suitable facilities with adequate air circulation, lighting, flooring, sanitary facilities and checks. Lambs must be fed exclusively on their mother’s milk (so-called ‘milk lambs’), while for other types grazing can only be supplemented with natural foods and wild essences specific to the habitat of the island of Sardinia. The animals must be identified, no later than 20 days after birth, using manual, optical or electronic systems capable of ensuring product traceability in accordance with the legislation in force.
